Green-Meldrim history

  • The Green-Meldrim house was General Sherman's headquarters during the Civil War.
  • A freed African American woman worked for the Green family and was the first and only woman to publish accounts of the Civil War.
  • General Sherman gave Savannah as a Christmas present to President Lincoln.
  • The Green-Meldrim House was built for Lucy as part of their marriage contract.
  • Julian Green was a famous French writer.
  • Judge Meldrim was mayor of Savannah and president of the American Bar Association.
